analog in, digital out
favorite part of the book
While reading Analog In Digital Out by Brendan Dawes, chapter 19 stood out to me. Dawes conveys the idea that making a gesture, such as liking or hearting a post on social media, becomes somewhat meaningless. We can relate to this idea today by looking at popular social media platforms like Instagram. When you post a reel or story, people like it and move on with their doomscrolling. To show you are actually interested in what is posted, a user might comment or reply to a story instead of just liking the content.
relating to UXID
In this section, Dawes emphasizes the idea that designers will create something that they think everyone will love, but in reality, it isn’t that way. This relates directly to UXID because it’s pretty much our job to make sure the user's experience is always positive. This can be achieved by creating multiple prototypes, conducting surveys, and having multiple designers' points of view on a challenge.
during my time at drexel
I never thought about the idea that so many functions in everyday apps take out the personal level of interactions. People like hundreds of posts and videos every day without even thinking about it. It becomes instinct rather than emotion. During my studies at Drexel, I hope to find a way to balance function and emotion when creating user interactions.
